Over the years and since the creation of our company, Rapid Biological Inventories (RBI) have been, and are to this day, one of the most satisfactory experiences for us as fixers specialized in field logistics. Since February of this year we received an invitation from a great friend and travel colleague of this type; Renzo Piana, executive director of the NGO Instituto del Bien Común (IBC) to help him with the logistics of an IBR in a mountainous area of the Huánuco region and we, without hesitation for a second, said; has Ecologística Perú.
On this occasion, the IBR was to generate the necessary and complementary biological information that the IBC is gathering to, with the endorsement and participation of the organized local population, justify the creation of a new Regional Conservation Area (RCA) in the area known as Osomayo – Milpo. Bird, Reptile and Mammals specialists, among others, joined the team of evaluators with whom for almost 15 days they had to investigate the area in search of fauna records that would highlight and give the importance due to this new ACR proposal.
The area offered certain difficulties due to the remoteness, the constant rainfall and the cold characteristic of the pre-montane and cloud forests between altitudes of 2700 and 3200 meters above sea level, but at the same time, the fact of not having been previously evaluated made it more than exciting and tempting to enter it, to look for new or unexpected species. For us, it was also a challenge and at the same time, a pleasure to be there.
Our fixer was there for 10 days, purchasing and securing supplies for the long road trips, adapting structures and preparing spaces for the evaluators and local support staff. Unexpected fauna records occurred from the first days and nights, in general, the work atmosphere was contagious. We want to thank the IBC for their trust in our work, the researchers and field technicians for the shared experiences, and the local residents whose support is always invaluable in these IBRs.
We are sure that, with the results, the ACR Osomayo – MIlpo will soon be a reality!!! THANK YOU.
