In July of this year, a former client, now a great friend, wrote to us; Blanca Muñoz, a freelance documentary filmmaker who had come to Peru in 2023 for a BBC Children documentary. On this occasion she was looking for us to give her a hand with another project in our country, this time it was about the illegal market for exotic pets in Europe and the international ties that satisfy that demand and without hesitation we agreed to help her.
The production sought to identify the actors and complete the supply chain of wild species, from the hunters in the forest, through the animal receivers in the city and reaching the exporters of the individuals from our country to the destination countries of the animals in Europe.
Coincidentally, a criminal wildlife trafficking network had just been dismantled in Loreto, led by a Spanish citizen, which had been investigated and followed for even 2 years and the topic was “hot” in all sectors and that is why it was not easy to get information from the capital, so we turned to a great friend and fixer in Iquitos; Guillermo Abadie “Guimo”.
In record time we managed to find each of the links in the entire chain and in 1 month we had everything prepared for their arrival. Their trip was short but intense and thanks to good contacts and impeccable logistics, the team achieved the project objectives.
